The Lee County Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to providing programs and services that add to the quality of life for all Lee County residents and visitors, and to enhance tourism through special events and attractions. The Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic is an annual athletic event that helps fulfill the above mission. This event, established by Gene Cusic 18 years ago, began with only 11 teams competing and now serves as a memorial to Gene’s legacy.
The Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic is an event that offers Men’s and Women’s NCAA and NAIA Baseball and Softball teams an opportunity to participate in regular season games during their respective “Spring Breaks”. Approximately 150 teams come from many of the “cold winter climate” states and represent the National Collegiate Athletic Association - Divisions II and III, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The event competition starts the end of February and continues through March. In addition, game umpires from all over the United States come to the area to provide their expert services for the event. The athletes, umpires, and their families stay at our local hotels, visit our local restaurants, attractions/entertainment and beaches daily, creating a great economic impact for Lee County.
Lee County Parks and Recreation Department takes great pride in offering this quality event at the following locations: Lee County Sports Complex, Sam Fleishman Regional Sports Complex (DeLeon), Terry Park Sports Complex, Cape Coral Sports Complex, Northwest Softball Complex (Cape Coral), and Pelican Baseball Park (Cape Coral). Local sponsors for this event are always welcome! Sponsorship will provide a group, company, or organization with an excellent marketing opportunity while the athletes, umpires, and their families are in town!
